Episode 0.5 – Pilot

Thanks for joining us for our very first episode (well I guess technically it’s an introductory bonus episode).

STOP! INSIDE JOKES AHEAD! If you haven’t gotten to listen to the episode yet, spoiler alert! This post contains lots of stuff that will make waaay more sense if you listen to the episode before or while reading. So if you haven’t already, pump the brakes and listen to the episode or just click above to play so that you can be in on all the shenanigans to follow!

On this episode we reminisce about our long friendship, Jeremy’s kid’s old man ghost friend, and George Washington’s teeth. Yep, we were all over the place on this one. We just wanted to use this as a chance to test out our audio equipment and give you a chance to get to know us before we get into the real episodes. So turn up the slidey knob so you can hear us, sit up in your sleep yelling “Christmas pie!!”, and let’s go!

Meet the Guys!

This is Jeremy. Jeremy is the skeptic. He lives in Houston with his wife, Brittiny and their son and pet friends: Arthur, a Corgi, Blue, a pit, and Eevee, some kind of Pokemon/tiny dog hybrid (Papillon). He is a self-professed a-hole who just gets worse the longer you know him. He works as a supervisor in an office where he is free to pick his nose and fart into his rolling chair literally all day.
This is Jonathan. Jonathan is the hopeful, open-minded one that wants to believe it's all possible. Fool. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Hannah and their two kids. He is the believer of the bunch and does more "quick Google searches" per episode than should be legally allowed for one person. He is former Air Force and now tinkers with the airplanes that carry passengers places. And we feel really good about that. Nope, that doesn't make aaaanybody nervous at all.
This is Peter. Peter is somewhere in the middle with a healthy skepticism, but a real desire to see something paranormal. He lives in south Louisiana with his wife, Brandi (hi) and their three cats, Harry Pawter, Theo, and Tallulah. He does graphic design for a living in NOLA. And he cannot seem to find the clothes basket to put his dirty clothes into...like ever. It's always on the floor. Peter, this is your wife speaking. Pick up your damn underwear off the damn floor for the fiftieth damn time. Please and thank you.

Well, there you go! You've met us and now, let's get into what we're all about on this podcast. Come on, friends!

Butthole-d on (see what I did there?) That’s not all! We’re gonna talk about other stuff, too.

Oh, yeah! Even MORE interesting and more thought-provokier things. Like…

I know, right? I know what you're thinking: where have we been all your life? Well, we're here now and we're ready to dig in...to ask the hard questions...to fork around and (what??) FIND OUT.

George Washington’s Dentures (Spoiler: They aren't made of wood!)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington%27s_teeth

Peter mentioned George Washington’s wooden teeth, but as it turns out, his dentures were made from much stranger things.

According to the wikipedia page “they contained no wood, and may have been made of teeth extracted from slaves, as well as other materials such as hippopotamus ivory, brass and gold.”

The wooden teeth idea was mistakenly believed possibly because the ivory teeth stained quickly and apparently had the color and appearance of wood.

Um. Gross.

Bottle trees for evil spirits? Turn up!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoodoo_(spirituality)#/media/File:Bottle_Tree_(23913677529).jpg

Above is an example of a bottle tree as we mentioned in the episode.

According to wikipedia, the purpose of bottle trees is to “protect a home or a location from evil spirits by trapping evil spirits inside the bottles.”

Traditionally, blue bottles were used. But as we all know, it’s not the outside of the bottle, but what’s inside that counts. And as we also all know, the most effective way by far to remove evil spirits from your home is to give them alcohol. Just a few bottles of booze and they are rolling up out of your crib like…

Bye-EEEEEEEE!

Seriously though, we are so excited to get into this with all of you. Here are some cool things to come:

And so much more to come! That's all just off the top of our heads. So keep coming back for more episodes.
